The CRYPT Jazz Restaurant patrons will be mesmerized by vocalist Charlette Dickson on Friday 29 June at 8pm. This husky songstress hails from Athlone, Cape Town and started her singing at a tender age. Breaking into this tough market didn’t stop Charlette from following her passion. She has shared the stage with some of South Africa’s jazz maestros where she performed at festivals around the country and stages in other parts of the world.
Charlette comes from a charismatic Baptist Church background and that is where she found her voice and passion for music. Singing came so naturally to this songstress growing up in the church choir from a tender age of 10 years. She was born in Johannesburg and spent most of her childhood in Harare, Zimbabwe and Cape Town.
No one could hold down this aspiring singer. She has performed in Zimbabwe, Namibia, The Gary Player Luncheon, Bastille Day celebrations and The Champagne Festival held in Franschhoek, Robertson’s Wacky Wine Festival and spent time in the Spanish Cannery Islands and Madrid, Spain. Charlette has a way to hypnotize her audiences through her wonderful voice and interacts extremely well with her band members through her performances.

This versatile artist then returned to South Africa to get some serious training to take her singing career to the next level. She signed up at the University of Cape Town’s College of Music under the tutelage of vocal trainers, Abigail Peterson and Melanie Scholtz. She has shared stages with George Werner, Ernie Ulster, Darren English, Alvin Dyers, Mark Fransman, Ramon Alexander, Mike Rossi, William Haubrich, Wesley Rustin, Frank Paco, Alex van Heerden, Willie van Zyl, Ivan Bell, Jack Momple to name a few.
“My life’s journey has been a rollercoaster of adventures and valleys and my soul has now learned to speak the truth”, describing her musical career thus far. Charlette will be taking a trip down memory lane. Get your feet tapping with her rendition of songs by Sam Cooke, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and many of her favourite artists. She is currently working on her EP and is excited to work on her material and collaboration material which is a dream come true.
