Bassist and vocalist Sibongile Gwacela will perform at University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) Centre for Jazz and Popular Music tomorrow 27 August before travelling outside South Africa. The Durban born artist studied Jazz Music at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). She has worked with many musicians in the industry.
Her musical journey began at Macufe Jazz Festival, where she opened the stage for the late Busi Mhlongo, Letta Mbulu and Thandiswa Mazwai. Sibongile has performed at several jazz festivals in South Africa including Hazelmere Jazz Fest, Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival, Macufe Festival, Soweto Jazz Fest and many more.
Sibongile’s line up of artists will be completed by Bucco Xaba on drums, Lungelo Ngcobo on piano, and Thabo Sikhakhane on trumpet. The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music is located at Level 2, Shepstone Building, Howard College Campus. Doors open at 17h30 and the shows starts at 18h00. Admission is R80 for the general public, R50 for pensioners and R25 for students
