Pianist Keenan Meyer will be performing at UKZN Centre for Jazz and Popular Music on Tuesday 22 October. He will showcase selections from his new work “Reawakening” alongside pieces from his new album “The Alchemy of Living” and notable repertoire from the South African jazz archive. This concert, titled “The Art of Pianism” delves into the rich tapestry of African pianism, emphasizing themes of reclamation, ancestral recall, and the transformative power of music in accessing cultural universals for personal ascension. The performance invites the audience to embark on a journey of deeper awareness, empathy, and connection.

Keenan’s musical journey began in Johannesburg, where his innate rhythmic sense and melodic ear ignited a lifelong passion for music. Since starting piano lessons in 2007, he has emerged as a key figure in the South African jazz scene. Beyond his performance and composition skills, he is deeply committed to teaching and mentoring emerging musicians, nurturing the next generation of music talent. The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music is located at Dennis Shepstone Building, Level 2, Howard College Campus. Tickets are R110 for general admission, R80 for pensioners and R50 for students.
