Mozambican Jazz guitarist and composer Elcides Carlos will be performing at UKZN Centre for Jazz and Popular Music on Wednesday 22 October. This is his second visit after the warm reception from his debut performance in 2023. His ensemble will include fellow compatriots Lelas Mavie on bass and vocals, Sarmento De Cristo on saxophone, and Durban based pianist Shamuel Mahabeer.

This concert aims to celebrate and promote Jazz music through a fusion of African rhythms and Jazz harmonies. The repertoire will consist of original compositions from his debut album “Sense of Presence”, alongside select Jazz and African music classics. The performance will showcase musical dialogues between Mozambican and South African musicians, fostering artistic exchange and cultural appreciation.

UKZN Centre for Jazz and Popular Music is located at Level 2, Dennis Shepstone Building, Howard College Campus. Tickets, which are available at the door, are selling for R120 for general public, R90 for pensioners and R60 for students with a valid card. Doors open at 17h00 and the concert starts at 17h30.
