After years of working behind the scenes of South Africa’s Contemporary Jazz music landscape and mentoring emerging talent through her creative company, The Verse Productions and its subsidiary, The Verse Music, creative multi-hyphenate – actress, producer, writer, vocalist and songwriter Mathunzi McDonald steps back into the spotlight with Mathunzi on Soul and Jazz, an exclusive live performance celebrating her artistry, storytelling, and musical journey.

Having spent recent years focusing on acting and creative production, and adding to her impressive body of work as an international actress, Mathunzi now returns to her musical roots in a deeply personal showcase that bridges her experiences across the stage, screen, and sound. Set for Thursday, 4 December, at Malwande’s House in Braamfontein, this one-night-only showcase offers an intimate evening where Mathunzi will perform a selection of beloved Jazz standards alongside her soulful original compositions. The performance marks a deeply personal creative homecoming and a prelude to her forthcoming projects.

Mathunzi’s ensemble will comprise of DiTeboho Kobedi on piano, Katlego Mokoena on drums, Sax Twala on bass and Wandi Makandula on vocals. Malwande’s House is located at 99 Juta Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg. The show starts at 6pm. Tickets are selling for R250 on Quicket or R300 at the door.
