Music practitioner, pianist, composer and scholar Diteboho Kobedi has been extremely busy and will look back to 2025 as a good year. Speaking to Jazz It Out a few months ago, he gave a hint about releasing a solo project which he was so looking forward to. The creative who was born and raised in Vaal Triangle township of Sebokeng kept to his promise and released an EP “Inner Gaze”, a solo piano project which is a reflective exploration of calling, identity, and faith through South African Jazz expression. It was released in October and became available in all digital platforms in November.
This recording marks the beginning of a three-part journey through sound and spirit. Diteboho’s musical voice weaves South African Jazz, Choral traditions, Neo-Soul, and global influences into a hard sound that is distinctively his own. The EP opens Diteboho’s “Inner Gaze: Solo Piano Series” – a trilogy that explores the intersections of spirituality, identity, and creative conviction. Rooted in South African Jazz expression, the project invites listeners to pause and look forward, to experience music not only as sound but as reflection.

At the centre of “Inner Gaze” is “Pitso”, a SeSotho word meaning calling. Across its four movements, Diteboho examines faith, purpose, and the tension between divine will and personal agency. The suite questions what it means to be called, not as an answer received, but as a dialogue between doubt, conviction and surrender. The “Pitso” visualiser, which premiered on 24 October 2025, reflects the restraint and reverence of the composition. Styled in a refined Top Hat suit and shot by Zoox Productions, the visuals capture the grace, humility, and quiet confidence of a musician with his craft.
The exclusive EP launch was held in Johannesburg at Rayna Music, a creative sanctuary where sound becomes a story, a space curated in collaboration, reflection, and artistic legacy. It brought together artists, thinkers, and music lovers for a live performance that felt both intimate and transcendent. The atmosphere was quiet yet charged, transforming music into meditation by a creative who is appreciated and respected by his fellow peers. The timing was deeply symbolic.
Diteboho’s versatility has seen him working with many artists, performing a variety of roles, making him one of the most sought after creatives in the industry. These roles include conductor, arranger, producer and providing mentorship to young musicians who wish to pursue music as a career. In addition to that, the number of festivals he has performed at is quite impressive and portrays him as an individual who makes a very good team player in all the projects he has embarked on.
