Jazz vocalist Rorisang Sechele has released her latest single, “Mama”, a heartfelt ode to the nurturing strength, unwavering sacrifice and enduring love of mothers. The single release marks the beginning of the second chapter of her debut EP series, “In Full Bloom” and forms part of South African lifestyle brand Old Khaki’s ‘Materials That Matter’.

Produced by long-time collaborator Thato Modika, the single features an exceptional ensemble of musicians who have become an integral part of Sechele’s sonic journey. The recording brings together DiTeboho Kobedi on keys, Mzamo Mthembu on drums, Thato Modika on bass, Andile Skhosana on guitar, alongside the rich horn arrangements of Themba Mhlongo on saxophone, and Lebogang Komane on trumpet. Together, they create a warm and textured soundscape that effortlessly blends Jazz, Soul and storytelling. A multiple Basadi in Music Awards, Mzantsi Jazz Awards and Urban Music Awards nominee, Rorisang continues to cement her place as one of South Africa’s most compelling rising contemporary Jazz voices.

With this single, she delivers a deeply personal and emotionally resonant offering that celebrates the women who shape generations through their guidance, resilience and care. The song also serves as the soundtrack to Old Khaki’s ‘Materials That Matter: Fabrics of Sound’ campaign, where Rorisang was selected as a featured creative voice. Her participation reflects the campaign’s celebration of craftsmanship, authenticity and cultural expression, positioning her at the intersection of music, storytelling and fashion.

Building on the foundations of “In Full Bloom – The Seed”, which garnered widespread acclaim multiple award nominations, “Mama” signals a season of artistic bloom for Rorisang. The release coincides with her standout appearance at the sold-out Red Bull Symphonic Orchestra this past weekend, where she returned as vocal director for the second and consecutive year. Having spent the previous three years as part of the production’s choir, her continued involvement signals her growing influence and leadership within South Africa’s live music landscape.

“Mama” opens the next chapter of “In Full Bloom”, her three-part EP series inspired by the journey of a flower’s growth, from part one, “The Seed”, which explored beginnings and potential, to now, part two, which explores the theme of budding, a meditation of transition, becoming and self-discovery. The trilogy draws inspiration from the Japanese idiom Oubaitori, a philosophy that reminds us that each flower blooms in its own season and possesses a unique beauty; in the same way, every person flourishes according to their own path and pace, embracing instead, the beauty of individual growth.
