The Unisa Music Foundation is proud to present the 2ndUnisa Jazz Festival on 12thand 13thApril 2019.  Following the success of the event in 2018, this year the festival has been expanded to conclude two full nights with national and international artists.

On Friday 12 April several bands will perform, starting at 5pm in the Z K Matthews Great Hall. The line-up includes the Europe based Ildo Nandja and his Trio, The Riley G Collective, Mageshen Naidoo and his ensemble, Artvark (vibrant saxophone quartet from Netherlands) and Italian guitarist Fabrizio Savino who has a world class reputation having performed extensively across Europe.  Artvark are internal recognized as one of the world’s premier jazz saxophone quartets. They have performed across North America, Europe, Asia and South Africa as several international jazz festivals.

On Saturday 13 April the Unisa Big Band will take centre stage for their inaugural performance, led by Karen Devroop.  The 17-piece big band is comprised of some of South Africa’s leading jazz musicians. Vocalist Gloria Bosman, guitarist Fabrizio Savino and the Artvark quartet will perform with the Unisa Big Band and audiences can expect the repertoire to range from traditional big band swing to contemporary jazz and original works by Gloria Bosman and Fabrizio Savino.  Saturday’s event starts at 19h00.
