Well-travelled and extremely talented jazz vocalist Simthandile Mtolo will perform for her adoring Durban fans this coming Wednesday 7 August at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) Centre for Jazz and Popular Music. This artist who is popularly known as Simtha holds over a decade of experience in live entertainment industry as a professional performer and live entertainment specialist.
She is a multi-talented artist who is also an accomplished actress. Simtha comes from a family that loves music. Some of her influences include Simphiwe Dana, Esperanza Spalding, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Gregory Porter, Maleh, Lalah Hathaway and Siphokazi. Her live performances always leave fans spellbound and asking for more.
In 2015 Simtha was awarded the 1st prize for East Coast Radio’s Be The Band Competition which she won a R50 000 music hamper for, as well as the chance to perform at The BP Durban Day where she shared a stage with Prime Circle, Thandiswa Mazwai and Mafikizolo, to name but a few.
Simtha’s line up will be made up of Lindo Swing on keys, Talent Mbatha on bass, and Lunga Myeni on drums. The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music is located on Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus. Cover charge is R80 for general public, R50 for pensioners, and R25 for students. Doors will open at 17h30 and the concert starts at 18h00.
