University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) Centre for Jazz and Popular Music will present a performance by jazz voice students on the Wednesday 14 August.  Jazz enthusiasts can expect to hear jazz standards, South African favourites, contemporary songs and some original music performed by students from the tertiary institution.

The exciting programme will include solo and ensemble singing as well as the close-harmony vocal jazz ensemble, UKZN Voices, directed by Debbie Mari.  UKZN voices will sing Joseph Kosma’s “Autum Leaves” and a new arrangement of “The Crossing” arranged by Concord Nkabinde as a special tribute to Johnny Clegg.

Song choices include “Birdland”,” Joy Spring”, “Afro Blue”, “Time After Time” and “Yakhal’inkomo” and songs composed by Stevie Wonder, Gretchen Parlato, Toots Thielemans and Busi Mhlongo.  Performing these brilliant compositions will be vocalists Sne Cele, Courtney Pendy, Menzi Cele, Nomalanga Khanyile, Lwazi Khuzwayo, Sanele Khubisa, Wandithanda Makandula, Busi Hlokoza, Nosihe Zulu, Andiswa Maduna and Nomfundo Cele.

The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music is located on Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus.  Admission is R80 for the general public, R50 for pensioners while students only pay R25. Doors will open at 17h30 and the show starts at 18h00.
