Multi-award-winning pianist and composer Sibusiso Mash Mashiloane will perform at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Centre for Jazz and Popular on Wednesday 19 February 2020. This concert is part of the release of his fourth album titled “Amanzi Nemifula”, which was initially released in three parts in January 2020.
“Amanzi Nemifula” explores the meaning of water and shows appreciation to our oceans, rivers and communities, while Mashiloane quenches thirst by revisiting some of his compositions. “Our water is one of our most important resources. Mash Trio takes the music back to this source of life. I was seeking the fluidity of nature in my existing compositions”, he said. “We wanted to offer a natural sounding concept without any processing”, Mashiloane added.
Mash Trio consists of Mashiloane on keys, Dalisu Ndlazi on double bass and drummer Riley Giandhari. Mashiloane’s previous albums are “Amanz’Olwandle” (2016), “Rotha – A Tribute to Mama” (2017) and “Closer to Home” (2018). Mashiloane is a prolific artist whose academic credentials speak volumes for the kind of passion and discipline he has for music. He has a Masters Degree in Jazz Performance and graduated Cum Laude from UKZN.
Jazz enthusiasts can expert and outstanding performance and music students can look forward to a lesson in live music from the performance by the Mash Trio. Mashiloane is a music lecturer at the institution after all. The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music in located on Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus. Cover charge is R90 for general admission, R60 for pensioners while students only part with R30. Doors open at 17h30 and the concert starts at 18h00.
