Music duo N’den is set to release their debut album “Sisingathiwe” on the 16th of June 2023 at Emakhosini Boutique Hotel in Durban.  “The album reflects a shared expression of original music that we have created over the last few years from pre-covid and beyond”, the duo said.

“Sisingathiwe” is a 10-track album that echoes the essence of guardianship, warmth, protection, and love for humanity.  It weaves around a musical collaboration brewed within the quirky nature of the duo’s camaraderie and stylish nuances that straddles Jazz, neo-soul, and a dint of contemporary Durban jazz feel.  With a friendship of nearly two decades, the originality and musical chemistry brought to bear on the album will leave listeners admiring creativity and musicianship.  “Sisingathiwe” is a culmination of the success of their debut single “Coffee in the Morning”, which received a warm reception.

David Smith and Thulile Zama who are N’den

N’den comprises vocalist Thulile Zama and pianist David Smith who met in the early 2000s while studying music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).  Their humble musical beginnings as a duo took off performing in various locations in Durban.  David’s passion for music is undeniable, playing a vital role as a member of the successful Jazz/Hip Hop band Big Idea which made waves throughout the country.  Thulile, distinguished by her dazzling voice, is the lead vocalist of the thriving all-female contemporary jazz band Heels Over Heads (best contemporary jazz nominees SAMA – 2011; Yamaha Young Artists winner 2010).  Thulile’s versatility as a vocalist is well known and loved within the jazz circuit in Durban.  Her talents have taken her to Hamburg, Berlin, and New Orleans.

Together they have been part of the Tributes to Mama Africa/Sophiatown band since 2017.  The band has performed in various places around the country, and has recently headlined the No Franco # 5 festival in Maputo, Mozambique.  In the last few years, the duet has composed original music and covered some of their favourite songs for their YouTube channel and social media spaces.  To celebrate this momentous occasion, N’den has planned a Pre-Launch the evening before the public holiday in June at Emakhosini Boutique Hotel.
